Bio-Diesel -An ECO Friendly Fuel

India boasts a growing economy, and is increasingly a significant consumer of oil and natural gas. In 2009, India was the fourth largest energy consumer in the world, after the United States, China, and Russia. Despite a slowing global economy, India's energy demand continues to rise. As vehicle ownership expands, petroleum demand in the transport sector is expected to grow in the coming years. While India's domestic energy resource base is substantial, the country relies on imports for a considerable amount of its energy use.

Alternative Solution :
The Bio-diesel

Use of bio-diesel fuel in conventional diesel engines results in substantial reduction of unburned hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and particulate matter compared to regular diesel oil. It has better lubrication capabilities, zero aromatics and minimal sulphur. It is safer to handle and use as it has much higher flash point than diesel oil. Biodegradability and non-toxic nature of the material is another great advantage with respect to its use in farming applications and does not dry out hands or burn eyes like diesel exhaust fumes do.

Generally speaking, biodiesel is an alternative or additive to standard diesel fuel that is made from biological ingredients instead of petroleum (or crude oil). Biodiesel is usually made from plant oils or animal fat through a series of chemical reactions. It is both non-toxic and renewable. Because biodiesel essentially comes from plants and animals, the sources can be replenished through farming and recycling.
